Sheila A. Schuster, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist with graduate degrees from PurdueUniversity and the University of Louisville. After 20 years as a child psychologist, she now devotes full-time work to advocacy on mental health, health care and disabilities issues. Dr. Schuster is currently the Executive Director of the Advocacy Action Network, an umbrella organization which includes the Kentucky Mental Health Coalition, Kentuckians for Health Care Reform, the United 874K Disabilities Coalition and the Kentucky Medicaid Consortium. The Advocacy Action Network is coordinating the grassroots advocacy activities of the Kentucky Voices for Health Coalition, whose goal is to increase health coverage across the Commonwealth. Dr. Schuster was appointed by Governor Patton as the first consumer representative on the Kentucky Department of Insurance’s Health Advisory Council. She recently completed two terms as the Chair of the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky, having serving on the Foundation’s board since its inception. Dr. Schuster has served on a number of mental health, healthcare advocacy and civic boards in the Louisville area and statewide. She is a member of the Kentucky Institute of Medicine and a graduate of Leadership Louisville. She has been honored by numerous national and state organizations for her advocacy efforts on behalf of children, individuals with disabilities, and those without access to health care.
